Reviewed in Sailing, April 2007.
Another book on catamarans and multihull sailing has been long overdue. This publication is so good that it almost makes the long wait worthwhile.
It is mainly about cruising cats, and it offers, with the aid of magnificent colour pictures and diagrams, a wonderful insight into what is fast becoming the preferred lifestyle of those wanting to use the sea routes to see the world. It is thoroughly up to date, keeping pace with the ever-changing developments in the industry, outlining the history of the concept and answering the many questions in the monohull vs multihull debate.
There are chapters on seamanship, handling, safety, heavy weather tactics, and designs, along with a list of craft, with pictures and specs to help the would-be owner in his decision to buy or build.
Because of its size and quality of production, it almost falls into the 'coffee table' category; yet it contains far too much info to be left stranded in such a place. It is a book to whet the appetite, and it is a very useful guide for cat owners or potential owners.
