Reviewed in SAILING January 2010:
The title of this book is a bit misleading; if you think you are about to be regaled with tales of derring-do on the oceans or waterways of the world, you are going to be disappointed.
There are no personal, adrenalin-pumping accounts in chapters such as 'Survive a Storm' or 'Get Big Air - Launch yourself into the sky with a sail'. Yet, the book is hugely interesting.
It is a geographical and historical tour - one that embraces a number of exciting, extraordinary things to do. It is about places, events and their backgrounds; about where to go to try these things, and in some cases, how to do them.
All is accomplished with short, well written text, enhanced by some wonderful photographs. So sit back and enjoy the tours and tips as the pages 'travel' from the Caribbean to the Southern Ocean, or from Lake Titicaa to Thailand, and describe rallies or round the world races. All in all, there are 100 ideas to inspire the adventure-hungry sailor.
