  Start to Win
  by Eric Twiname

Reviewed in SAILING June 2010:

Of course you want to start winning. Don't you? Then start reading the tried and tested methods of getting near the podium, as outlined by the late Eric Twiname. Tried and tested? Oh yes. This is the third edition of a book that first saw the light of day in 1973, and it carries as much weight and worth now as it ever did.
Twiname, all those years ago, stressed that there was no magic formula for racing success. But, in dealing with helm and crew, and every aspect of a race from start to finish - in clear text and fine illustration - he puts together in detail all the pieces necessary to move from middle to front of the fleet.
In his foreword to the book, renowned British sailor Ben Ainslie writes:
"Start to Win was first published four years before I was born, yet by the time I had taken up dinghy sailing competition some 14 years later, the book was still compulsive reading for all club yachtsmen. The fact that it is now re-published 36 years later speaks volumes about its instructive values and still current relevance to racing dinghy sailing".
And if you need further convincing about the book's merits, top yachting author Bob Fisher writes: "Does exactly what it says. Read this book and you will Start to Win".
